James Kunuk was last seen by his family September 21, 2016 in Whitehorse, Yukon. He was reported missing by his landlord in December 2016.

James had previously been living in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. He had recently moved to Whitehorse and had not unpacked his belongings. His wallet was also left behind.

James did not contact his family for his birthday or over the Christmas holidays, which is considered unusual for him. It is not believed that he moved again.

He has family connections to the Northwest Territories.

James was 34 years old at the time of his disappearance. He uses several aliases. He is described as Indigenous, 5’10” and 181 lbs with a medium build. He has short, straight black hair and brown eyes. He has two tattoos; one on his left forearm of a cross with the word "LIFE,” and on his right arm of the word “THUG.”
